Rike Knows “The Jackson 5” 20x28” framed canvas
The Jackson 5. Today’s generation will never know the thrill and excitement of seeing Bo Jackson absolutely crush two professional sports. I witnessed Bo’s talent as a kid during the late 80’s and knew that there was something special about it. I became a life-long fan of “Bo Knows” and the sneaker culture that followed it.Inspired by a 1989 Nike print ad where Bo was seen playing five sports; basketball, biking, tennis, running and weightlifting. This piece pays homage to the sneaker line that Bo was known for during his short career as an NFL Running back and MLB Outfielder. The five shoes represented here were essential to the legacy of Bo and would contribute heavily to sneaker culture for many years to come. The five shoes ranging five years from 1987 to 1991 include: Nike Air Trainer 1, Nike Air Trainer SC, Nike Air Trainer SC 2, Nike Air Trainer SC 3 and Nike Air Trainer Max 91. All five were designed by legendary footwear designer Tinker Hatfield. During the 1980’s Tinker was assigned the task of designing shoes for athletes that trained in multiple sports, creating a new category called Cross-Training. This could not have come at a better time than Bo entering the realm of professional football and baseball. I wanted to pay homage to Bo, Tinker and an era that will always be special to sneaker culture. I am forever grateful of their contributions. This ad and the shoe line reminds me of a time I never want to forget. Thank you Bo.Rike.
